Justification of Constructing New Line

When the question of constructing a new railway line between some places arises due to public demand or some other reason, an intensive study is carried out as regards viability of the project.

The following points should be kept in mind while considering the justification of constructing a new line

Total population of the villages, towns, industrial places, etc, coming –under the project, should be recorded.

The standard of living and habits of the population, and the economic conditions of the locality, should be thoroughly studied as it will be a source of revenue for the department.

The amount of agricultural, natural and industrial resources should be recorded.

Information regarding religious places, religious fairs of festivals, business centers, etc. should be noted.

The amount of revenue that may accrue from passengers, agricultural goods, industrial goods, natural resources, etc. should be estimated.

A topographical map should be studied to determine the number of culverts, bridges, level crossings, tunnels, etc.

An agricultural map should also be studied so that too much valuable land is not affected.

A contour map should be studied in order to ensure economical alignment, avoiding unnecessary cutting or filling and maintaining a permissible gradient.

An Industrial map should be studied to find the shortest route to connect industrial areas.

Property Topographical Survey

From the general map of a country, only the positions of objects can be found out,angles of the traverse. The lengths of traverse legs are measured accurately by using the total station,If the area is extensive, it is divided into a number of sectors. Each sector is enclosed by a closed traverse having proper connection with the other sectors (i.e., it is ensured sectors have that the common sides).

During the process of locating objects, the contours are located on the map. This may be done directly by plane table/ total station. However, this method is very laborious. These contours may also be located indirectly by dividing the area into squares or by taking cross-sections are noted on the map, and the contour lines are drawn by interpolation. Also, rather than by drawing contour lines, the nature of the ground may be indicated in relief as described previously. The purpose of a TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEY is to gather survey data about the natural and man-made features of the land, as well as its elevations. From this information a three- dimensional map may be prepared. You may prepare the topographic map in theoffice after collecting the field data or prepare it right away in the field by plane table. The work usually consists of the following:

Establishing horizontal and vertical control that will serve as the framework of the survey.

Determining enough horizontal location and elevation (usually called side shots) of ground points to provide enough data for plotting when the map is prepared.

Locating natural and man-made features that may be required by the purpose of the survey. Computing distances, angles, and elevations.

Topographic surveys are commonly identified with horizontal and/or vertical control of third- and lower-order accuracies.

DGPS Survey

A Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) is an enhancement to the Global Positioning System (GPS) which provides improved location accuracy, in the range of operations of each system, from the 15-meter nominal GPS accuracy to about 1–3 cm in case of the best implementations of DGPS.

Drone Survey

Drone surveying is an aerial survey conducted using drones and special cameras to capture aerial data with downward-facing sensors. It is frequently used by surveyors and engineers in construction for terrain assessments and mapping. Drone surveying can be 90% faster than manual surveying methods.

Total Station Survey

Total stations are the primary survey instrument used in mining surveying. A total station is used to record the absolute location of the tunnel walls, ceilings (backs), and floors as the drifts of an underground mine are driven.

GEO-Techincal Investigation Survey

A geotechnical investigation was carried out to determine the geology of the site. Geotechnical investigations are performed by engineers or geologists to obtain information on the physical properties of soil and rocks around a site.
